The following projects have been
completed as PI/ Co-PI.
Assessing
Economic Impact of Selected CARI Technologies and Services (PI)
The study intended to carry out economic impact assessment of the CARI
Poultry Germplasm (CARI
NIRBHEEK and CARI SHYAMA) distributed amongst DAPST/SC beneficiaries under its
outreach programme. The study used propensity score matching technique for
assessing the economic impact of the treatment (distribution of improved
poultry) on the treated (farmer beneficiaries).
Supply Response Analysis of Maize and Soybean (PI)
The
project aimed at identification of potential growth areas for the two major
feed ingredients, their supply response behaviour to price and non-price
factors, decomposition analysis, and production elasticities. Risk variables
significantly affected maize acreage, while soybean growth was primarily due to
acreage increase. Poultry population and irrigation were major drivers for
soybean.
Economic Analysis of Poultry
Production and Marketing in India (PI)
The project aimed at time series analysis in egg and meat prices, market
-cointegration analysis, economic analysis of poultry production technologies,
inter-regional
analysis of growth areas, productivity trends, and long-term price movements.
Co-integration analysis showed the interdependence of egg markets across the
country.
International Poultry Trade & Export Opportunities (PI)
The project aimed at studying the pattern of international poultry
trade, analysis of comparative cost advantage, exploration of export
opportunities and trade barriers for Indian poultry sector. The project also
identified potential export destinations for poultry products on the basis of
gross margins per shipment.
Study on Institutional Credit Support in Uttar Pradesh (PI)
Trends and pattern of institution credit support to poultry sector,
issue of enhancing the formal credit support to this sector, impact of
institutional credit on poultry production activities in context of income and
employment generation as also the bottle necks in such credit flow. Analysed constraints in financing poultry farming. Found disease risks,
lack of insurance, collateral, and awareness as key issues. Finance was more
accessible for expansion of existing units.
Poultry Entrepreneurship Development Initiative – The Agri Business
Incubator (PI - on going)
The
project provides incubation support to the entrepreneurs /incubates in poultry
production and allied venture. The ABI project (Rs. 79.15 lakh) was launched in
2016 to support business incubation, commercialization of technologies, and
human resource development for poultry entrepreneurship. The ABI Centre has so
far conducted 22 EDPs. The Centre conducts at least 4 EDPs per year. The Centre
also provides hand holding support through various social media channels and
closed user groups who complete the EPD training successfully.
Studies on consumers’ preferences and marketing of poultry products in
North India (Co-PI)
The
project studied channels of egg and meat marketing, consumers’ preferences in
North Indian elite organized retailing v/s unorganized markets in smaller
towns; value addition, manual v/s mechanized processing of broilers, compared
marketing channels for packaged vs. unpackaged poultry products, identified
value addition opportunities, and constraints in elite and rural markets.

Looked into the cost and return
aspects of poultry production in hilly areas of Kumaon in addition to the
models of backyard poultry and poultry marketing etc.
Small Farm Rural Poultry
Production (the World Bank funded project under NATP) (Co-PI)
Tested improved
native crosses in the backyard free range poultry rearing systems, developed
feed supplement packages, identified constraints in their adoption, and
assessed impact on income, nutrition, and women empowerment. Project rated
excellent by the advisory panel.
Development of Project Formulation Software for Poultry (Co-PI)
MS-Windows®
based software was developed to formulate projects for commercial layer &
broiler farms. It may be used for preparing project reports for
farmers/entrepreneurs seeking financial support or starting poultry businesses.
Hazard Analysis of poultry waste
& Techno-economic Evaluation of its Alternative uses (CCPI)
The project analysed quantum of poultry waste generation in India over
time, projected
future trends, and
assessed its impact on environment. The project also attempted to suggest best
options for utilizing poultry waste through economic evaluation of processing
and value addition technologies.
Rural
poultry farming-A pilot study on transfer of technology (Co-PI)
An outreach programme aimed at
popularizing small scale poultry rearing in rural areas; assessing impact on
income, employment and consumption.
Human resource planning for poultry sector in India: A forecasting study
(Co-PI)
