Research Activities & Achievements
Assessing Economic Impact of Selected CARI Technologies and
Services:
The study intended to carry out economic impact assessment
of the CARI Poultry Germplasm
(CARI NIRBHEEK and CARI SHYAMA) distributed amongst DAPST/SC beneficiaries
under its outreach programme. The study used propensity score matching
technique for assessing the economic impact of the treatment (distribution of
improved poultry) on the treated (farmer beneficiaries).
Supply Response Analysis of Maize and Soybean:
The project aimed at identification of potential growth areas for
the two major feed ingredients, their supply response behaviour to price and
non-price factors, decomposition analysis, and production elasticities. Risk
variables significantly affected maize acreage, while soybean growth was
primarily due to acreage increase. Poultry population and irrigation were major
drivers for soybean.
Studies on consumers’ preferences and marketing of poultry
products in North India.
The project studied channels of egg and meat marketing, consumers’
preferences in North Indian elite organized retailing v/s unorganized markets
in smaller towns; value addition, manual v/s mechanized processing of broilers,
compared marketing channels for packaged vs. unpackaged poultry products,
identified value addition opportunities, and constraints in elite and rural
markets.

MS-Windows® based software was developed to formulate projects for
commercial layer & broiler farms. It may be used for preparing project
reports for farmers/entrepreneurs seeking financial support or starting poultry
businesses.
Economic Analysis of Poultry Production and Marketing in
India:
The project aimed at time series analysis
in egg and meat prices, market -cointegration analysis, economic analysis of poultry
production technologies, inter-regional analysis of
growth areas, productivity trends, and long-term price movements.
Co-integration analysis showed the interdependence of egg markets across the
country.
